Yet, upon closer examination, what unfolds in this artwork is solely the moon's reflection in the rippling waves, not the moon itself. The water doesn't quite seem to be water, yet neither is it the sky. The moon exists as nothing more than an illusion. In the foreground, a cluster of reeds stands prominently, seemingly desolate yet finding comfort in each other's company.
